Epson Stylus SX400 October 27, 2009 at 5:04 am

The Stylus SX400 is a multifunctional device and is perfect for those looking for something more than just a bog standard printer. It offers high resolution photo printing, scanning and copying in one box for an affordable price (under £70 from competitive retailers). Epson SX400 ink cartridges consist of four individual Epson ink cartridges each for which can be changed if and when they have run out with out affecting the others that have ink remaining which works out to be economical in terms of not wasting printer ink. The SX400 has some impressive performance figure on paper - 5760dpi x 1440dpi and 1,200 x 2,400 maximum print and scan resolutions respectively as well as a maximum print speed of 34 pages per minute. While the printing and scanning resolutions covert into great quality printing and scanning the quoted speed of 34ppm is far from accurate. The closest we could get t the official figure was 10ppm and even then the print in draft mode was barely readable and increasing the setting to standard decreased the speed to an average of 4ppm, which although isn’t that bad for a inkjet printer it’s pretty far from 34ppm. The photocopier makes use the SX400 impressive scanning capabilities in producing its copies and although it not designed for heavy duty work it’s a useful convenient feature that works without the need for a PC. Overall the SX400 feels well put together and its materials feel of good quality although the trademark noisy operation is present with the Stylus SX400.
